YAN Wei 晏伟
In 2008, Yan Wei graduated with honors from Zhongnan University of Finance and Economics majoring in investment. He wished to go abroad to pursue a master's degree. After attending a presentation of ESSCA School of Management, Yan Wei was very impressed by ESSCA's two-year master's program (Grande Ecole program). He registered to the program and was successfully admitted in the same year.
During the two years in France, Yan Wei loved French art and life. Although he was studying in a traditional Grande Ecole program, his interest of career development was not the traditional choice of most Grande Ecole students: he was interested in the media industry. His mentor at the time told him if he wanted to get into the media sector, he could be introduced to some related companies or media. After careful consideration, Yan Wei felt the ideal environment for his career development is China. As a result, during his studies he did two internships in media companies. After graduation, he successfully joined the London Times’ office in Beijing as Director of European Affairs, where he managed a number of projects.
In the media industry for a year, Yan Wei had a clearer understanding of himself and decided to re-orient his career. Always having an entrepreneurial dream, he finally decided to combine one of his hobbies with his career: he started his own business in the trading of red wine and cognac. A few years later, the business has been getting more and more on the right track, Yan Wei has also become the country's leading experts in the field of cognac. In March 2017, Yan Wei was selected as a Certified Cognac Educator by the BNIC (Bureau National Interprofessionnel du Cognac, National Interprofessional Office of Cognac) and went to France for a training. In 2017, there were more than 8,000 people applying for this qualification in the world. Only 12 of them were selected and among them Yan Wei was the only Chinese. At present, there are only eight Certified Cognac Educators in China. Today, Yan Wei often communicates French Cognac brandy culture to Chinese brandies enthusiasts, as an official Cognac ambassador. At the end of 2017, he started to cooperate with Remy Martin and became the spokesman of "Louis XIII", a prestigious brand of cognac. For Yan Wei, his current career path and life choices are closely linked to his experiences at ESSCA. Without the study at ESSCA, he would not choose to be an entrepreneur or choose the particular area of French wine and cognac. From now on, he will continue to contribute to the cultural exchanges between China and France.
